280 Total Points Required

Letter in Science - Point Recording Form

Students will earn a letter/pin/award/recognition in Science if they earn 280 total points based upon the following achievements and upon participation in school-related activities that have been pre-approved by the Billings Senior High STEM Society and Administrative team.

Points for Classroom Grades:

Science coursework (per semester)

A 40 points

B 40 points

C 30 points

D 20 points

**REQUIRED - 4 years of science coursework at Senior High

**REQUIRED - at least 10 points must come from "STEM Society Activities" (see below)

Points for STEM Society Activities

STEM Society Activities are worth 1 point/hour. Each activity must be an approved event that is coordinated or sanctioned by Senior High's STEM Society.

Example point scenarios:

-Stem Society Meetings: 1 point per hour

-Science Fair: 1 point per hour

-Science Magic Shows : 1 point per hour

...other opportunities include Girls in Science, College Student Shadow days, STEM Saturdays, STEM society leadership council, Science Olympiad, Science bowl, Rocky Mtn College & Exxon/Mobil research experiences.

Points accounting

  • Meeting Attendance: students must check into each meeting at the STEM Society Meeting Attendance form

  • All points forms will be audited when submitted to earn a Letter in Science.

Second Science Letter Club

Students are eligible to apply for XΛN after completing the following. Awardees will receive a bar to add to their letter.

• 1. Must be a Senior (12th grade)

  2. Enrolled in at least 1 science course at Senior High in 12th grade

  3. Earn at least 5 points from STEM extracurricular activities in 12th grade
